SESSION SUMMARY:

SESSION 1: DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT (10am – 11am)

This webinar will focus on effective strategies when teaching in a multi-level, EAL classroom. Manageable ways to meet the needs of all students within a safe, inclusive setting will be addressed and the following key questions will be explored:

What makes a classroom multi-level?
What/How can I differentiate?
How can I assess multi-level learners?

A handout of useful resources and ideas will also be shared.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Terena Caryk is the Program Coordinator of English for Specific Purposes at The University of Winnipeg. In addition to coordinating, she teaches English for Internationally Educated Teachers in ESP and is an instructor in the ESL Teacher Certification Program. Over the past 10 years, Terena has taught EAL to CLB 1-8 adult learners and spent four years teaching EAL to K-12 students in the public school system. Terena holds a B.Ed. and a M.Ed. (TESL) from The University of Calgary.


SESSION 2: ASSESSMENT FOR LEARNING: NEW TOOLS AND INNOVATIONS (11am - 12pm)

This session will provide an overview of new developments to support effective CLB-aligned assessment for learning. Participants will learn about the Formative Assessment Toolkit, a free set of easy –to-use formative assessment tools that is available online.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Colleen Rogan has enjoyed teaching in a variety of EAL settings since 1988. She currently works with ELSA Net as the Provincial Instructional Resource Coordinator and the TESOL Department at Vancouver Community College. She has a M.Ed. in TESOL through the University of Calgary with a special interest in Education Technology. She has recently joined Tutela.ca Team as a Community Coordinator.
