SESSION 1: Incorporating Pronunciation in a CLB-based Program
What are some important concepts related to pronunciation instruction? How can it be integrated into a CLB-based program? How can pronunciation instruction be linked to specific CLB competencies? What resources are available? This presentation is a webinar version of the workshop given at the February 21st, 2013 ALT conference. It is based on pages 57 to 70 of the recently released CLB support kit.

Rebecca Hiebert is a program coordinator with Manitoba’s Adult Language Training Branch. She is an experienced EAL teacher, presenter and teacher trainer, holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Manitoba. She has recently led Train the Trainer – the CLB Support kit PD sessions in both Brandon and Winnipeg.

SESSION 2: Strategies in Developing Students’ Writing Skills
Returning Writing is an independent-study program at Enhanced English Skills for Employment (EESE), in which students can continue practising what they have learned in the EESE Writing Skills 1 & 2 Courses. The strategies, procedures and activities used in this course evolve continuously to meet the needs of the learners.

Hilda Bergen is the Head Facilitator in Returning Writing, managing the writing of approximately thirty students and the work of four facilitators, as well as administrating the program. Her experience in teaching, both in private and public education, includes teaching language skills at all levels, from children to adults.
